He started his education at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, receiving his Bachelor of Science in general health science. Shortly after, he attended Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana, earning his Doctor of Medicine. During his school years, he developed noteworthy leadership skills, participating as the trip leader of a medical mission group that provided primary care to individuals in Quito, Ecuador, through the Purdue University Timmy Foundation. He also served as the co-chair and trip leader for the Habitat for Humanity group at Indiana University School of Medicine Helping Habitat.

Dr. Fehrenbacher completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Indiana University School of Medicine, followed by an orthopaedic trauma fellowship at IU Health Deaconess Henderson Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He contributed to many research projects over the years as well, helping develop research questions that involve complications of spinal surgery and physiological responses to surgery. 

Demonstrating dedication to his field of work, Dr. Fehrenbacher has participated in many committees and courses, such as a Stryker pelvic surgeon dissection course in Seattle, Washington, and the IU Orthopaedics Program Evaluation Committee. He continues to develop his knowledge and skillset, learning about novel orthopaedic techniques to better provide for his patients at Orthopaedic Associates, Inc.
