About Dr. Kaitlyn Stevens
Kaitlyn Stevens, DO is a fellowship trained hand and wrist surgeon with a foundation in board certified general surgery. She is known for her expertise in advanced surgical techniques and her commitment to thoughtful, personalized care that restores function and improves quality of life. Her clinical interests include Dupuytren’s contracture, fracture care, tendon reconstruction, infection management, in office procedures using WALANT, common hand concerns, and quality improvement initiatives that enhance the overall patient experience.
Dr. Stevens grew up in a small town in Central Michigan, in the middle of a cornfield, where there are more cows than people. As the middle of five, 2 brothers on either side, she grew up as a multi-sport athlete with a deep passion for sport, friendly competition, and overall health and fitness. During her undergraduate studies at Central Michigan University, she participated in multiple study abroad programs, including her first medical mission trip. Her love for travel, international adventure, and providing for underprivileged communities with minimal access to quality health care ignited across these experiences. Her goal is to incorporate this passion for serving underprivileged communities into her practice. She graduated medical school with honors from VCOM in South Carolina, and then returned to the ‘Mitten’ for her residency in General Surgery, where she served as Chief Resident, and later became board certified in general surgery. Her initial training translated further into Hand Surgical specialization at Kettering Health Network.
It is throughout this dedication and personal experience facing adversity that she learned of the vital impact an invaluable patient-physician relationship has on longevity. Whether confronting sport, career, or life-altering milestones, Dr. Stevens understands the importance of a patient-centered care team and physician advocacy. Making a return after a distal radius fracture taught her how to be the team captain for her patients and their ailments. She strives to see patients come back to a life they love. Throughout her training as a Hand Surgeon, she gained knowledge and expertise in caring for traumatic, acute, and chronic injuries, attending to vascular, nerve, bony, and tissue imbalances, harmonizing the interplay of complex anatomy within the human hand, restoring movement and dexterity.
She believes treating patients is a true privilege. As a Hand Surgeon, she looks forward to working together with her patients to overcome vulnerabilities and access their triumphs, while reaching and realizing their fullest individual potential. Whether procedural or non-operative, the integral longitudinal follow-up and authentic patient-physician relationships will strive to bring motion, purpose, and precision to her patients’ lives. Patient journeys from injury to recovery, loss of function to gain of strength, and time off work to career advancement, are goals she envisions seeing to fruition. Dr. Stevens is honored and eager to meet and work together with her patients to achieve their unique hand-related goals.
When Dr. Stevens is not in the OR, she enjoys scuba diving with her husband, marine science, water sports, hiking, outdoor adventure, traveling with friends and family, running, baking, mountain biking, football!, playing musical instruments, family time, photography, and snuggling her doggos. Her movie genre of choice is comedy!
